Eager for Knowledge

This week I am thankful for the eagerness my 4 year old has towards learning. January I started teaching her at home. Her desire to learn blows my mind. She often reminds me to teach her. I at times, have to tell her to wait a bit. The Look on her face when I tell her that it’s  time to learn, melts me with pride.

Last year she was attending a private Catholic school. It was okay, I just didn’t see much improvement from what I had already taught her at home, as a matter of fact, I think she was regressing.

The school was about 20 minutes away from our home. It was a bit inconvenient, also my littlest was about 7 months when she started attending, it was a bit hard to get them both out the door and on time. When we saw that they were opening a preschool literally 2 minutes away from our home, I was so excited! We pulled her out of that school, even though we had paid the enrollment for the following year, I didn’t care, I just wanted her to be closer to me.

We enrolled her in the new school and waited for them to call us back, with the starting date. August went by, September, October, November and nothing. My husband kept calling them and the only thing they would say was that the classroom was all set up but they were waiting on licensing to come over and give them their approval to open. We kept waiting. Once December came around we stopped trying, we knew they were not going to be able to open this year.

I decided to start home schooling her again, I shouldn’t have stopped. Since December was full of holiday fun I decided that I would start in January. I haven’t been consistent, I tend to skip 1 or 2 days during the week and obviously I don’t teach her on the weekends, I know…shame on me!

So far she has learned all her letters and sounds. She knows how to differentiate between capital/lower case letters and between vowels/consonants, how to blend one vowel words and has started blending two vowel words. She recognizes numbers 1-20 and about 12 different shapes including how many sides they have. She knows the prime/and a lot of secondary colors. We have started to do addition and subtraction problems too. She has also read her first 1 vowel book made by me.

It’s ONLY been a month!! Like I said before, I haven’t even been consistent and I spend about 30 mins-1 hour a day learning with her. She truly blows my mind!!

Her eagerness for knowledge amazes me. Even though she loves my praising, I must admit that her ultimate praise comes from her daddy. She is such a daddy’s girl. The ultimate approval comes from him. I can tell her a million times that I am proud of her and she’ll be happy, but she beams with joy when daddy says it.

I do the work, daddy gets the joy of it all…oh well, I’m use to it. #momofgirlsissue
